Dylan (with The Band). He lifted songwriting from a whimsical pop exercise to the height of the fine arts. This dared others to follow.
The Fab 4 defined the turn in music's era. They possessed an incomparable pair of songwriters who were as essential to each other's work as they were antagonists. The archetype of pop music in the beginning, to the standard for a Rock record by the end.
Jimi destroyed all limitations of what the electric guitar and amplification were. He invented Rock guitar and possessed exceptional songwriting talent. There was a consistent hunger to take things farther than others could envision.
The Stones are the original Rock band. Drawing directly and consistently from the riffs and rhythms of Mississippi Delta blues, then evolving into the embodiment of rock songwriters and performers.
Where It All Came From
Additional galleries will be added, to include recognition of the supernova of talent that emerged and released records between 1963 and 1969. There are concentrated periods of creative work throughout history, for all forms of art. This 7 year period saw an explosion of talent, styles and ideas cascade into the public domain from two dozen bands, or more. The artistic merit present in one year of record releases during this period is not acheived in a decade currently.
It didn't stop in '69. The Carriers emerged and lifted Rock onto their shoulders and moved it forward. It became difficult, with the onset of money and copying of successes but there were more giants, who sourced their work from the same place and would take the music across a diverse landscape for a rich, sonic 30 year run. We will periodically add the galleries that show these songwriters, players and performers.
